The M4 Mac Mini: Work Horse or Tech Fad? || Andrew's Tech Toolkit

Like many around the world, I was shocked at the reveal of the new M4 Mac Mini in 2024. It's size makes it the smallest professional-grade computer and one of the best on the market. But is the design change really worth the upgrade or is this just another tech fad soon to fade out in the next round of updates? Watch my latest video or read this article to find out!

Size Matters

When you set out to make a "mini" version of anything you're bound to have your work cut out for you. We all know the power of computers that fit in the palm of our hands and as tech has advanced we've expected more and more from less and less. The M4 Mac Mini promises just this. The M4 Mac Mini has a new design that is smaller than its predecessors at 5in x 5in x 2in. This makes it small enough to fit in your hand or easily storable on a desk shelf allowing it to be the most versatile desktop to exist.

Horse Power

Surely Apple must have sacrificed something to make the M4 Mac Mini as affordable and form-fitting as it is, right? Well besides the missing SD Card slot, you'd be surprised to learn just how big of a punch this tiny package packs. I only got the base model mind you but even then it comes with 16GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. This may not sound like an awful lot but I've been able to run multiple Adobe Suite applications, media playback, and web surfing all at the same time without any slowing down. And for the storage, you can easily work from an SSD drive connected to the Thunderbolt ports to make room for anything you need on the hard disk itself.

Who is it for?

With Apple now cornering the market on tablets, phones, and professional desktops, who is left to claim the M4 Mac Mini? Well with a starting price of $599 the M4 Mac Mini is a great option for those looking to purchase their first Mac. While I've had no trouble with more professional-level tasks, this could work well for students and beginners as well as professionals on a budget. Just keep in mind that when you purchase a Mac Mini that's all you get so it will be important to have extra money for your needed peripherals like webcams, keyboards, mice, etc.

In all, I think the M4 Mac Mini is an incredible deal. It packs a powerful punch and would be a great option for someone wanting to save money and space.
